"So Much More"
Your eyes, that deep, rich blue,
I wish to see them, shining through.
That bright light glowing, fierce and fine,
But now they’re closed, no longer mine.
They read a script,
rehearsed and plain,
Words for you, yet laced with strain.
Not your meaning, not your grace,
Just the shell, the time and place.
They stand to speak, I sit enraged,
Their words on you feel disengaged.
Not your kindness, not your heart,
Just empty echoes torn apart.
Everyone grieves in their own way,
But for you, I wished to say:
You deserved the garden, the roses, the lore,
You deserved so much more.
They should have spoken about your dignity and pride
How no matter the circumstances you never lied
The smile on your smile must of spoke to the heavens
Cause who could ignore that expression
When I stepped up, I spoke for you,
Every word, raw and true.
So all could see the love, the grace,
That made this world a better place.
I said it all, I gave my best,
But still, I wish you had been blessed.
The pastor praised but did not know,
The depths of what effects your unconditional love did show
Your life was spent for those in need,
No matter how much it made you bleed
A silent strength, a quiet might,
With a smile that burned so bright.
To family first, you gave your all,
But bore the weight, and took the fall.
From others' eyes, just old and kind,
They never knew what lay behind.
A veil once strong, now brittle with age
Who had her whole life been kept in a cage
So here I am
To say my final goodbye
To the woman who loved so well, I someday hope to see you in the sky
A guiding light, my angel true, I only wished for more for you.
I can't stay mad, can't cling to pain,
Yet still, I wish again, again.
I’m sorry life was not your dream,
That sacrifice ran past extreme.
I’m sorry we left you in the fray,
That you knelt while others walked away.
But most of all, I wish you peace, A love unchained, a soul released.
Your whole life, I hope you see,
You deserved more—infinitely.
