Artists of today didn't become the great music-makers they are in a vacuum. They grew up listening to and often imitated artists who were popular at the time. A great way to discover new music is to learn about the influences of artists you really like. If you love their music, you will often really like the people who they admired and be able to hear the influence in the music.
