Year 10 Applied Computing is a semester long elective that provides an introduction into VCE Applied Computing Units 1-&2 and Date Analytics Units 3 & 4. Year 10 Applied Computing also provides a pathway in to the VCE-VM and completing a Certificate III Cyber Security.
In Year 10 Applied Computing Unit 1 , students learn how complex information like numbers, text, images and sound are represented in binary, how compression works and the broader social impacts of digitising the world’s information. They look at the questions that arise from the need to represent digital information in computers.
In Unit 2, Game Development, students are introduced to game design and development through classroom discussions and hands-on programming. Students learn the specific commands needed to make a game using the programming language Python. They design and create their own unique games and collected peer feedback for improvement.
In Unit 3, Big Data, students learn how data from individuals and connected technologies is used to inform society, businesses, industry and governments. They look at how smartphones can be used to collect data and contributes to a person’s digital footprint. They learn to format spreadsheets, using formula to automate calculations in spreadsheets and create data presentations.
