Year 10 Performing Arts - Songwriting is a semester long elective that provides an introduction into concepts aligning with VCE Music and Certificate II Music. This subject is suited to students that have a creative mindset, play or are looking to learn a musical instrument and enjoy performing
In Year 10 Songwriting Unit 1, students explore the ‘songwriters toolbox’ and develop practical and theoretical music making skills. They research artists that they enjoy, then embark on the songwriting process. Students learn about how to write lyrics, a melody, use chords for emotional impact and add beats and a bassline to complete a song. In Unit 2, students write a song developed to satisfy a design brief from a ‘client’. They shape a variety of musical elements to create a commercially viable piece of persuasive text set to music.
