Students who choose Music in year 10 will have a choice between Music A: Performance skills in Semester One and Music B: Songwriting in Semester 2. They may also choose to do both as both subjects are stand-alone units of work.
These two subjects will be particularly valuable for students that aspire to career pathways in the Performing Arts but also any career which require public speaking.
Students will strengthen their ability to innovate and collaborate and will learn the skills required to produce works that will elicit a specific response in a target audience.
Each student will learn how to manipulate the elements of Music to create both solo and collaborative performances in a specific style that is consistent with their expressive intent. They will analyse works from other cultures and comment on both the emotional impact of the work, and the expressive intent of each work.
Students will learn to play an instrument or extend their current skills on a chosen instrument, compose and notate music working to a design brief, and will collaborate to create an end of semester performance. They will learn how to promote themselves and get their music out to their target audience. This valuable industry experience will transfer to other career paths that require advertising, liaising with clients and booking events.
