Year 10 Law is a semester long elective that provides an introduction into VCE Legal Studies Units 1- 4. Year 10 Legal Studies is suited to students with an interest in the making of laws, the functions of government and how individual rights are protected.
Year 10 Law students explore, evaluate and investigate the rights and responsibilities of an Australian citizen. Students investigate the role of political parties and the formation of government. They examine Australia’s international legal obligations and the key features of Australia’s court system, including jurisdictions and how courts apply and interpret the law, resolve disputes and make law through judgements.
Students explore the elements of criminal and civil law and use the media to examine and discuss recent case studies in these areas and discuss the key principles of Australia’s justice system, including equality before the law, independent judiciary, and right of appeal.
