Year 10 2D Art is a semester long elective that provides an introduction into concepts aligning with VCE Creative Practice and VCE Visual Communication & Design. Year 10 2D Art is suited to students that have a creative mindset, enjoy the design process and are considering a career in design.
In 2D Art Unit 1, students explore how artist use drawing methods in their creative practice. They will learn about observational drawing, and what it means to understand shape, form and tone on a 2D surface to achieve a sense of realism. Students will use a variety of drawing materials to develop their skills and techniques and in the process build a folio of experimental artworks that demonstrate their progression of learning.
In Unit 2, students will study the artworks of famous painters and how these painters, from different times and cultures, captured moments in time. Students will be lead through a series of experimental painting activities that build on their knowledge from Unit 1 but also new understanding of various painting techniques and skills that will culminate into one finished painting based on personal ideas. Students will have the freedom to explore both abstraction and realism if they choose.
