General information

There are several times throughout high school where students are required to select subjects and/or electives for the following year/s. These key subject selection processes are:

• Stage 6 subjects (6 subjects to study in Yr 11 and Yr 12) - conducted when the student is in Yr 10

• Stage 5 electives (3 electives to study in Yr 9 and Yr 10) - conducted when the student is in Yr 8

• Stage 4 electives (4 x semesterised electives for Yr 8) - conducted when the student is in Yr 7

The selection of subjects is an important decision for students and parents. Students should select subjects they enjoy, have an interest in and believe they will do well in. It is important for students to select their most enjoyable subjects, as this will give them a positive attitude to all aspects of their studies.

Students should not select subjects based on:

• what their friends are doing,

• the teacher they think might be teaching a certain subject or,

• to a lesser extent, as a prerequisite to their Year 11 and 12 studies.
