English Standard, EAL/D English, English Studies
English Extension I is the ideal companion to English Advanced, offered to students who are confident in their English skills and looking to take their thinking further. Taught in a smaller tutorial-style group, the course gives students the space to practise and refine the same core skills—analysis, composition, and evaluation—while engaging with new concepts and texts that challenge conventional ways of thinking.
Rather than being about ‘harder’ work, Extension I offers more opportunities to explore ideas in depth, experiment with writing, and receive targeted feedback. Students are supported to develop their voice—both critical and creative—as they explore the evolving role of literature across time and culture.
This course strengthens Advanced English students by building confidence, independence, and conceptual agility—key advantages in both senior studies and post-school pathways.
Note: Students must be enrolled in English Advanced to study English Extension I. This course is suited to those with an interest in English who enjoy discussion, experimentation with ideas, and working collaboratively in a supportive environment.
