Are you curious about the power of language to shape how we see ourselves and the world? English Advanced is a course for students who are passionate about stories, ideas, and the art of communication. If you’re intrigued by morally grey characters, big ideas, and literature that challenges how we think about human nature, identity, and society, this is the course for you.
English Advanced invites students to engage with compelling texts from a range of times, places, and perspectives—including classic and contemporary literature, Australian voices, and global storytelling. Through novels, films, plays, poetry, and multimodal texts, you’ll explore how language reflects, disrupts, and reshapes our understanding of the world around us.
This course is designed for students who are ready to be curious, creative, and reflective. The texts and ideas offer greater depth than those in Standard English, but students are guided through every step—supported to develop their own interpretations and encouraged to share insights through discussion and writing. The focus is on exploring meaning and perspective, building confdeance in expression across the course.
Note: English Advanced is ideal for students who achieved a Grade A or B in Year 10 English and who are keen to extend their thinking, express themselves confidently, and engage deeply with literature.
