There is no course requirement for Drama, although having attempted courses in Stages 4 or 5 is beneficial. Students must have a willingness to work both independently and within groups, and demonstrate a commitment to experiential learning and participation in practical activities in an active and supportive manner.
Projects developed for assessment in one course cannot be used either in full or in part for assessment for another subject.
Preliminary Course learning opportunities focus on:
Making Drama - the act of play, and creating performances through playbuilding, script work and improvisation
Performing Drama - the process and skills of creating a production, including the design
Studying Drama - reading and watching performances and examining their meaning and value.
HSC Course learning opportunities focus on:
The three major components of Drama: Making, Performing, Studying. Students will explore these through the topics of Australian Drama & Theatre, and Studies in Drama & Theatre
A Group Performance of an original piece of theatre. It must be 8 to 12 minutes in length and students work in groups of 3 to 5 persons.
An Individual Project: students demonstrate their expertise in a particular area of Dramatic Expression of their choice. This could be Critical Analysis, Design, Performance, Script-writing, or Video Drama.
Internal assessment for HSC Drama is based on a student’s ability to make, perform and critically study Drama. External assessment for HSC Drama is based on a student’s performance in practical and written examinations.
Assessment in the Preliminary course is based on the components listed above.
HSC assessment involves a Group Performance and an Individual Project. The written is a study of Australian Drama and Theatre, and Studies in Drama and Theatre.
