Visual Arts builds on the Stage 4 and 5 course, however, it also caters for students with limited experience in Visual Arts. You must be self-motivated and an active learner. This course requires a strong ability to critically respond to various artists and their work and write sophisticated extended responses. You will be required to engage in art making beyond the classroom.
Projects developed for assessment in one course cannot be used either in full or in part for assessment for another subject.
Preliminary Course learning opportunities focus on:
Artmaking, art criticism and art history
The role and function of artists, artwork, the world and audiences
The frames and how students might develop their own informed points of view
Developing meaning, focus and interest in their work
HSC Course learning opportunities focus on:
Students developing their own informed points of view in increasingly more independent ways using the frames and conceptual frameworks
Students developing their own practice of artmaking, art criticism, and art history applied to selected case studies
Developing meaning and focus in their body of work
In the Preliminary year
Artworks in at least 2 forms and use of a visual arts process diary
A broad investigation of ideas in art criticism and art history
In the HSC year
Development of a body of work and use of a visual arts process diary
A minimum of 5 case studies
Deeper and more complex investigations of ideas in art criticism and art history
The components of this course are equally weighted:
Artmarking - 50%
Art Criticism and Historical Studies - 50%
