While this subject builds on Music courses in Stages 4 and 5, it also caters for students with more limited experience. However, students must be prepared to perform and be able to play an instrument / or willing to develop vocal skills.
Music 2.
Students study three topics in each year of the course. Topics are chosen from a list of 21 with examples of the topics including:
Australian music
Music for Small Ensembles
Popular music
Rock music
Music of another culture
Film Music
Topics are selected based on the interests of the students.
Preliminary and HSC Courses learning opportunities focus on:
The concepts of music
Performance, composition, musicology and aural skills
The study of a range of styles, periods and genres
Preliminary Assessment
Students will be assessed on the following
Performance 25%
Composition 25%
Musicology 25%
Aural Skills 25%
HSC Assessment
In addition to core studies in performance, composition, musicology and aural, students select three electives from any combination of
performance
composition (song writing)
viva voce (talking).
These electives must represent each of the three topics studied in the course.
