This is an academically rigorous course, which is designed for students who have studied Music as an elective for year 9 and 10. A high standard of musicianship is expected.
Music 1.
Students study one Mandatory Topic covering a range of content and one Additional Topic in each year of the course. In the Preliminary course the Mandatory Topic is Music 1600 - 1900, in the HSC course the Mandatory Topic is Music of the Last 25 Years (Australian focus).

The study of the concepts of music through learning experiences in performance, composition, musicology and aural.
The study of a range of styles, periods and genres.
Each student studying Music 2 should be at an approximate performance standard of fifth or sixth grade AMEB and fifth or sixth grade theory or musicianship.
Students should be undertaking individual instrumental or vocal tuition.
In addition to core studies in performance, composition, musicology and aural, students nominate ONE elective study in Performance, Composition or Musicology and are required to compile a portfolio of work as part of the process of preparing submitted work.
All students will be required to develop a composition portfolio for the core composition.
In the Preliminary course equal weighting is given to the areas of performance, composition, musicology and Aural. Assessment may target two or more components within the one task. Tasks given throughout the course are worth 60% and the end of course exam worth 40%.
