English Advanced, English Extension, English EAL/D, English Studies
English Standard is a course for students who want to strengthen their ability to think critically, express themselves with confidence, and prepare for success beyond school—whether that be in university, TAFE, or the workforce. This course builds the core skills needed for adult life: interpreting information, forming and communicating ideas, and engaging meaningfully with a wide range of texts.
Students will explore texts that reflect real-world issues and diverse human experiences—through novels, films, speeches, poetry, and more. They’ll learn how to write with clarity, structure their thinking, and respond with insight across a variety of forms.
English Standard follows the same exam structure as English Advanced and contributes fully to an ATAR. While it does require commitment and consistent effort, students are supported every step of the way to build their skills and develop confidence in their voice.
Note: English Standard is suited to students who completed Year 10 English at a C grade or above and are willing to invest in their learning. It is not recommended for students not pursuing an ATAR, unless they have a keen interest in English.
