In this vaguely titled topic, students discover more about the individual components that make up a Multimedia system, including different media types, and how each applies to their major project. While not explicit in the syllabus, there is a dedicated presentation on calculations that could be asked in exams.
This is a lengthy page, each topic area has (will have, anyhow!) several presentations. Please use the tables of contents to find what you seek.
These presentations have detailed speaker notes and some have links to YouTube versions as well. If you want the speaker notes, open the presentation to view these notes.
In the Industrial Technology syllabus, there are sections that talk about bit depth, compression rates and encoding. This leads to examiners asking questions about file sizes and calculations that go along with this. While calculators are allowed in the examination, students generally find the topic confusing and difficult. This presentation, spreadsheet and exercises try to demystify this a little. This presentation is self-contained and does not contain speaker notes. Everything is on the screen.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk!
This is a worksheet with common (and uncommon) calculations that may turn up in an examination. The video calculation is highly unlikely, but it does give a very indication of how AWESOME video compression truly is. Answers are here. Try and finish the exercises before looking at them!
