The Syllabus has students investigating these elements of design:
One of the basic and essential elements of design is Line, which is essentially what makes up a graphic illustration, drawing, or any plan that demonstrates how products would look like, etc. A line is a stroke that connects two points where different weights and directions in lines convey emotions, bold characters, and makes designs pop, providing EMPHASIS. These factors that affect the lines, will provide different art styles when manipulated differently by artists. The link below links to a nice summary of eleements of design. The image is not reproduced here because I do not have permission to reproduce it.
This presentation gives a sound overview of the Design content from the Industrail Tecehnology syllabus. It should be noted that it is not the only sources of inforamtion and it is suggested you continue exploring the pages.
Line in design can vary in weight boldness or direction. They can be thin, thick, or a gradient from thin to thick in weight; its purpose can vary depending on the context since it can emphasis words/text, present how final designs would look, provide visual guidelines on the eyes, etc . Lines can also be curved, zig zag, dotted or diagonal to connect content, form patterns throughout the design and more. It can be used to shape many objects, providing a outline, or forming a focal point in a image.
This example presents how line is used in art and how it provides ones art style, as lines can be manipulated to create a lot of detail, direction, and form many possibilities in how it can be used. Line is the essential element of design as it's different uses can give so much information visually to the viewer while being the main core of drawing in sketching ideas, and finalizing them.
Shape and Size are both elements of design, is referring to in definition; quality of a distinct object or body in having an external surface or its exterior is outline of the form/figure. This can also mean a defined enclosed area like shapes that is two dimensional that can either be geometric or organic free-hand shapes. This element of design is used whenever something is made.
focus point (facial features), distinguish certain things from others . shape used in design everywhere
This presentation discusses colour and colour theory. It is detailed and extensive and well worth a lot of time working through it making detailed notes.
Texture is used to represent how an object appears or feels.
For example: the website https://speckyboy.com/free-high-resolution-texture-packs/ has a bunch of free texture packs available. Here are some samples (linked from their website)
This texture shows what it says, a gritty, rough texture.
This is a marble texture, giving the impression of a stone surface, not necessarily rough, but hard and unyielding.
This is a very subtle texture that throws the shadow of a old photocopier.
There are many more textures on this website. Textures can give the impression of something soft (wool) or hard (wood), sharp (broken glass), or any other feeling. In media production, texture provides clues to the setting of the product and prompts users to an emotional response as much as colour prompts a user for a response.
