Analysing images – The long shot

Duration: 15:04

Watch video

The 'camera shot' describes what you can see in an image or illustration (close up, mid-shot, long shot). Illustrators can choose the camera shot to create meaning for the reader.

Hint! The 2 images below are long shots. A long shot makes us feel the character is a small part of the world.

Example 1: Long shot

A long shot of two young boys outside. One boy is seated on a tree stump holding a book. The other boy is standing with his arms stretched up.

Example 2: Long shot

A long shot taken from an illustrated book. Blue waves take up most of the double spread. In the bottom right corner, a young child is running out of the waves onto sand.
