Adapted from M Askew – A practical guide to transforming primary mathematics, 2016
Instructions (select arrow)
Roll the dice to create a 2-digit number. Write it on one of the sticky notes.
Repeat until you have 4 numbers.
Order them from smallest to largest, and largest to smallest. The challenge is: do this in the fewest (least) moves possible, and only move cards that are next to each other.
Order these numbers from largest to smallest.
Record how many moves it takes to order them. Remember, try to use the least number of moves possible!
Challenge!
Another way to play:
Make bigger numbers by using more dice.
Use only a few playing cards to form numbers (for example, use A, 1 and J (to represent 0) only). Does that increase the challenge of working out the order?
