Shipping the Artworks

Shipping the Artworks

Once everything has been catalogued we proceed with preparing the boxes to send the artworks to the host school in Badajoz. Students need to learn how to ship the artworks, so they arrive in perfect condition.

We have to measure the artwork in order to select how to keep them. In some cases, we chose a folder for drawings and for bigger formats a shipping tube. It is a good idea to cover the drawings and paintings with glassine paper.

We select a wooden crate as the most appropriate shipping container. Fill in the container with corrugated paper to cushion the edges. The corners are especially susceptible to damage, you can protect them with cardboard corner protectors.

We can also use bubble plastic to wrap fragile elements as the stained-glass windows and glass platters. Make sure all surfaces are completely covered with at least 2 inches of bubbles, including edges and corners.

Fill voids in your shipping container with additional bubble wrap or corrugated paper, especially at the top and bottom of the box or tube, as these areas are especially vulnerable.

For the unboxing

Once the host school receives the container, look for an appropriate place for the unboxing of the artworks. Find a bright and spacious place where you can place the artworks as you take them out of the container.

Use gloves to handle the art pieces. And it is advisable to take pictures all of them individually and all together, to have a whole view of the artworks.

Once everything has been unboxed, display the artworks on a surface and document it with pictures and notes.

Unfortunately, you need to get everything back to the boxes as the place it is surely going to be needed for lessons.
