What to see

Muzeum Śląskie - Katowice

The Silesian Museum is located in the revitalised post-industrial area of the former Katowice coal mine. The architectural concept refers to the industrial history of Silesia and the original function of the post-mining area. It assumes little interference in the post-industrial landscape, therefore most of the designed complex is located underground. Glazed blocks harmonize with the complex of historic buildings, many of which were built in the 19th century. Underground there is also an auditorium with 320 seats, a library, educational and conference rooms, and an impressive 12.5 m high exhibition space called the central hall. A unique attraction is the 40-metre high hoist tower of the Warszawa II shaft, to which a panoramic elevator has been added, allowing visitors to reach the upper platform with a view of the park and the entire city.

Kraków, Zamek Królewski na Wawelu

The Wawel Royal Castle together with the Wawel Hill is one of the most important historical and cultural sites in Poland. A centuries-old seat of kings and a symbol of Polish statehood, in 1930 the castle also became one of the most important museums in the country, housing a valuable collection of paintings, prints, sculptures, textiles, goldsmith's wares, militaria, porcelain and furniture. The chambers display the famous tapestries of Sigismund Augustus and the magnificent Italian Renaissance paintings from the Lanckoronski collection, while Wawel's collection of Oriental art includes an outstanding and Europe's largest collection of tents.

The Castle's holdings are presented in several permanent exhibitions, which present the royal residence's appearance in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Each of the exhibitions is visited separately. From spring to early autumn visitors can also go down to the Dragon's Den, climb to the highest levels of the Sandomierz Bastion, and take a guided outdoor tour to learn about the history of the development of Wawel Hill and the reconstructed gardens

Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau w Oświęcimiu

Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim - the museum was established in 1947 through the efforts of former Auschwitz prisoners to preserve "for all time" the remains of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. The Museum consists mainly of two large parts of the former camp complex: Auschwitz I Stammlager and Auschwitz II - Birkenau, together with more than 150 building structures, about 300 ruins, authentic roads, ramps, fences, as well as archives that survived the evacuation of the camp and a collection of more than one hundred thousand movable objects (including suitcases, shoes and objects of everyday use, prisoners' striped uniforms and objects of SS origin). The Museum houses a permanent main exhibition and several so-called national exhibitions, organized by countries commemorating their victims.
