Collective Sculpting Work: Wooden Pencils
The theme of sculpting workshops in Poland was to create monumental wooden pencils, obviously evoking associations with artistic activity and visual arts. The finished pencils were used to create a sculpture installation placed in front of the school building. The installation adds an interesting variety to the urban space and makes the school a more student-friendly place.
Each element was prepared from wooden beams about 2.5 meters long. Pupils divided into groups had to remove bark from each of the beams at the beginning of the workshop. To achieve the desired effect, it was necessary to use professional sculpting tools, such as wood chisels. Then the pupils had to carve cone-shaped wood on one of the ends of the debarked beams. The prepared beam had a crayon-like shape. Then the participants painted the beams in various colours with acrylic paints. The final stage of the work was to engrave on the surface of each crayon a word that would be related to the topic of art, e.g. imagination, creativity, etc. The pupils created words in Spanish, French, Italian and Polish. The installation was installed in its place after the end of Polish mobility.
