Interviews & Important Information

Parking Lots and Vending Machines

The start of the new year has been great meeting and welcoming all the new students that have become part of the Discovery family. There are a few big changes such as the new vending machines. They are only open during FLEX, before and after school only! Machines will be turned off during class periods.

We also have a new parking lot where all students can park. Students must have a parking permit and are required to have a license. Students can find all paperwork in the front office.

And with more new and exciting things to come this year we hope everyone has a great year here at Discovery.

  Preforming Arts Club

I sat with Mr. Bitter, who runs the Performing Arts Club to see what this year would look like for them.

He says he is most excited about "giving students the opportunity to be able to perform and create amazing presentations and productions for the Performing Arts Club." When asked about the first DHS musical, he said he is "really excited about putting on 21 Jump Street because the production actually takes place at a high school in Florida. As well as representation of Hispanic Culture that we have in this school." He spoke about the importance of the Performing Arts Club and how it gives students a place to explore their individual interests and passions.

Tryouts for the upcoming play 21 Jump Street will take place 9/1 after school.

 Football

The football season started out with a preseason game against Santa Fe High School. The final score was 26-6 with a 70 yard pass from Joben Krzeminski to Brandon Ashlock being the touchdown. There was a strong showing from the offensive line that allowed over 100 yards of rushing from the offense.

How do you feel the preseason game against Santa Fe went?

JC Foerster: I am very proud of  how the team held up against the state champion Santa Fe Hawks. We found where our strengths and weaknesses lie and what we need to work on in the upcoming season.

How do you feel about the up’s coming season and the teams you are going up against?

JC Foerster: I see a lot of potential coming from our team. We have a lot of freshman and people who’ve never played the sport that are stepping up and giving their all. We have some previous players that are stepping up as role models and are teachers to the younger individuals in the sport. Our coaches are really stepping up this year and giving us confidence we lacked in the past. We are starting to become a family.

  Volleyball

I spoke with 9th grade, Hollie Kimble, who is on the JV Team about her year so far on the Volleyball Team. She expressed that the team is excelling at getting in good serves where the ball makes it over the net. She expects to win every game this season even though she thinks their first few games were good but there is room for improvement.

Varsity player Nylah Farmer weighted in on this year as well citing the connection that the players have with each other this year. She expects the team to grow closer as the year goes on because so far, the team has good energy when cheering for their teammates.

From the stands, Nicole Carmenate spent the first few games of her Senior Year cheering on the teams. She says, "the crowd was very supportive." She also mentioned that the Varsity game was intense and fun to watch. She does plan on coming to more games because of how much she enjoyed her time.
