Older Americans Month         By: Vivian Frabotta

The month of May is used to commemorate the older Americans. It reminds us to thank and appreciate all they have given to the younger generations. They gave us life, guidance, strength and so much more. "The 2022 theme is Age My Way, an opportunity for all of us to explore the many ways older adults can remain in and be involved with their communities"("OAM 2022" 1). Take just a few minutes to write a letter to a senior you know to thank them and let you know how much you appreciate them. It might not make a big difference to you but you never know how happy it may make them. It has been proven through studies that thanking people makes you happier. Yes, thanking someone will make YOU happier. So go, run, write a letter, make yours AND someone else's day so much better; you will not regret it!

Hungry, Isolated; features found in Shanghai, China due to Covid. With China being one of the last countries trying to eradicate Covid, the city of Shanghai has gone on lockdown. The people are unable to leave their homes (if tested negative), or the quarantine facilities(if tested positive) after nearly 20,000 cases were reported on March 31, leaving even essential businesses closed. The people of Shanghai have to wait for their food to be delivered but in some places, they are completely isolated due to delivery personnel also being in lockdown. '"It is true there are some difficulties in ensuring the supply of daily necessities," said Liu Min, the deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce.' (Shanghai: Residents 'running out of food' in Covid lockdown). The people are hungry and with the lockdown, there are concerns about the elderly people who aren't good with technology and about price gouging. There are plans to open up just the local markets so there is more delivery personnel to handle the number of orders. Will this help eradicate the virus or is it all for nothing?

Chris Rock made the joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head, which her husband Will Smith did not seem to appreciate. "Jada, I love you, 'G.I. Jane 2,' can't wait to see that," Rock quipped as he presented the award for best documentary. The camera cut to Pinkett Smith, who sat next to Smith and rolled her eyes.

"That was a nice one," Rock replied, seemingly in response to the joke's poor reception. Pinkett Smith has been candid about her alopecia, an aggressive disease that causes hair loss. ''Rock then said, "Oh uh," and laughed as Smith walked toward him on stage and slapped Rock on the face.'' According to the LAPD, Rock dismissed the fact to press charges. Smith went to the stage about 40 minutes after the altercation to win the Oscar for best actor and apologized to the Academy and his fellow candidates, but he did not address Rock by name. Mrs. Smith then posted a week later that she doesn't need a man to defend her. It has the people wondering why she gave Will a look at the Oscars just to make an announcement to social media that you can hold your weight. For more information, click here.

Gas Prices           By: Makayla Robinson

With the rise in gas prices, everyone is looking for a good deal. Gas stations connected to Walmart are typically cheaper than surrounding stations. As of 4/18, the average price is $4.08 in Polk County, which is much cheaper than on 3/21 when it was $4.16. Hopefully, the trend will continue and gas prices will average under $4 per gallon.

Movie Spotlight      By: Natalia Robles Lopez

Are you a Marvel fan? Well, get your popcorn ready, because reaching theaters on May 6th, is “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” (Marvel.com). The movie follows Doctor Strange, and his friends Wong and Wanda, as they travel through the multiverse. This movie is jam-packed with adventure and excitement, and will for sure keep you on the edge of your seat. I recommend watching the previous Doctor Strange movies as they are not only very entertaining but will also help you better understand how Doctor Strange got to where he is in the movie. The movie starts off when Doctor Strange casts a spell that opens the portal up to the multiverse. This portal makes an opening for a threat to come through (Marvel.com). Will Doctor Strange and his friends be strong enough to fight it off and save the world? Or is the world doomed?
