Hello Northridge!
I am going to be putting together a Recipe book for our MultiCultural Night. I would love to include all of the many cultures at NRE.
Please consider sending me a favorite recipe or two coming from your family ethnicity. You can send it to me by email (mpeck@dcsdk12.org) or drop a hard copy at the office and I will make it all look pretty for the book. :). Deadline is September 15th.
Example:
Family: Peck family (kids names and grades)
Category: Sides/Bread
Country of Origin: Ireland
Recipe: Ingredients and Instructions
Story:(if you have one)
My Grandmother Kelly used to make this for us every time we would visit them. We loved to slather lots of butter on them and eat it warm. Yum!
(Picture if possible - See picture to the side)
Hope you can join us in making our Multicultural Recipe Book a huge success!
Thank you,
Mary Peck

We have reached our stretch goal of raising $65,000!!!!! THANK YOU to everyone who has donated, asked for donations and corporate matches, and contributed in any way. We have never raised this much before and because the event was handled completely by your NRE PTA, 100% of the donations will benefit our school. We are grateful for your support and humbled by your generosity. Prize Day is scheduled for September 14th and the celebration will include snow cones, root beer floats, inflatables and water slides.
For Safety reasons we are unable to have spectators on prize day, we thank you for understanding!

Coat Drive
Your NRE PTA is also organizing a coat drive this year! We are hoping to reuse and recycle coats that your children grew out of, and offer them to other Northridge families that need coats for the upcoming winter. We ask that you donate new or gently used children's winter coats to a drop-off bin found inside NRE by the Front office starting on Monday, September 12th. Donations will be collected until Wednesday, October 5th and will be made available for families that would like to take home a coat on October 7th.
NRE PTA receives around $400 each year from Amazon Smile courtesy of our great NRE community. We want to double that number by the end of next year and need your support! When you shop at Smile.Amazon.com, Amazon Smile donates 0.5% of the purchase price back to Northridge PTA. All you have to do is click the link below and choose Northridge PTA as your charity of choice. Make sure the word SMILE is in front of Amazon to ensure your purchase is credited back to us. We appreciate the 5 minutes this will take you to set up! Click Here to link to Amazon Smile

Our SAC meeting today had a special guest, Matt Reynolds, who spoke about why our district is going for a Bond/MLO. He shared multiple resources that can be found on our district's page here and are shown on the SAC Recording below as well. If you do not know the financial situation of our district and where the money comes from, I would encourage you to at least take 5 minutes to watch this video from our Superintendent Erin Kane.
Dear NRE Community -
The four day weeks seem to be the busier weeks then five day weeks with students. On Thursday, I thought it was Wednesday almost the entire day. Oops!
THANK YOU!We asked for support for our Fun Run and wow, you guys showed up! We raised more than $70,000!!! This was the first time since I have been here that PTA has run the event without going through a company which was a ton of work. We were using a company to help us with the day of the event but also with the prizes. The company also took about 1/3 of the funds which means all of the money raised this year goes directly to the PTA and back to your children at NRE. Thank you to all the volunteers that made this happen and for all the hours of planning, setting up, taking down, wrangling tents, speakers, counting hash tags etc. Thank you. Seriously, I do not know what more to say.
Wednesday is Fun Run Prize Day! The whole school will be participating in this which is very excitinig. Students will receive either snow cones or root beer float, inflatables and have the opportunity to participate with water slides. Please have your child bring an extra pair of clothes (even if they don't want to go on the water slides). PTA will be sharing dates for the mock sleep over, main event, and other prize information with everyone soon. Again, we could not have this celebration without you all.
Did you know we have 33 languages spoken at NRE this year! We do! We are looking forward to celebrating all cultures at Multicultural Night which is September 29th! It's seriously one of my favorite nights because everyone is proud of who they are and where they came from and my hope is that we could all be this way every single day of the year. I have even convince my parents to have a booth from Spain which is where my dad's family came from and this is two days before my nephew's wedding. Are you wondering what languages we currently have at NRE? Here they are in no particular order: Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, Telugu, Hindi, Cantonese, Dutch, Hakha Chin, Malayalam, Kannada, Arabic, Indonesian, Bulgarian, Vietnamese, Marathi, Gujarati, Korean, Khmer, Oriya(Odia), Hungarian, Latvian, Polish, Japanese, Romanian, Urdu, Tamil, Yoruba, German, Farsi, Italian, Ukrainian, Kazakh, and English. Please email Melinda Wales, English Language Specialist, if your family speaks a language that we have not listed, so that we can celebrate and include it as well! mwales@dcsk12.org
One of the ways we are hoping to celebrate our cultures is to have a recipe book that is free to our families. Please consider sending a recipe to Mary Peck. We did this when I was in elementary school and one of my family's favorite breakfast cinnamon bake is from there. Please send a recipe or two to Mary. The information is in the first section.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend and I look forward to a fresh week.

This week in Mandarin Class they are practicing their writing skills and a child was working on writing the word 'love' as shown to the left. The student exclaimed, "LOVE IS SO COMPLICATED!" Liúzhì Lǎoshī burst out laughing and said something to the effect of yes, and it's important you learn this now :)
In Chinese, we were learning about “Radicals” this week and students are practicing writing them with chalks on the ground! Sam is writing the more difficult Chinese character “biang” that means a special kind of wide noodles!
What relaxes you and recenters you? Mrs. Lynch grew up on an island so being on the water is her favorite place to be.
