Northridge 3rd Grader Makes his Own Unique Resolution on a Ballot Initiative for November 2022 Election
On October 7,2022, the NRE SAC Board unanimously approved a resolution in support of the DCSD Mill Levy Override (5A) and Bond (5B).
The school SAC is an advisory committee that is lead by elected parents of a school. A major role of any Colorado school SAC is to help the school staff increase the level of overall parent engagement of the school, increase family partnerships with teachers, and advise on budgetary issues. As parents of DougCo students, and specifically parents holding a position on the SAC board, we recognize the importance of supporting the mill levy override measures on the November 2022 ballot.
After the elected parents of the NRE SAC committee voted to approve resolution in support of the DCSD Mill Levy Override (5A) and Bond (5B), one of NRE's own 3rd grade students decided to take action in his own unique way to support and inform our community on the importance of this measure passing. The parent members of the NRE SAC are very proud to represent a school where students are encouraged to have the confidence to stand up, and speak-out on the matters that are important to them. We recognize that the students of today, will be the leaders of tomorrow.
Dear NRE Community -
Is it really possible that Fall Break was only a week ago? Well, it was which helped give us the energy for such a fun week. I'm so thankful for our community because you always show up! We had a wonderful week thanks to the Fun Run and Fall Festival.
On Tuesday, PTA and I took about 40 students to Main Event. This was part of the Fun Run prize that students could earn. We took a limo party bus to Main Event and played pool, lazer tag, games, went bowling, and had lunch. My favorite part was the smiles on kids faces, watching them help one another, and new connections that were made. If you haven't been to main event, there are a ton of activities to do. Students received a $10 game card to play different games like Skeeball, Dance Dance Revolution, and 98+ more games. They had the opportunity for unlimited lazer tag, bowling, and playing pool too. With the game card, they can earn credits and then pick out free items in the shop. We had a first grader help a kindergartener do their math to get prizes and it was the sweetest thing ever. They did this all on their own and listening to the math conversations melted my heart. We also had two brothers that were helping each other out. The younger brother lost his card so the older brother offered some of his points to that he could still get a prize. It was seriously cuteness overload. I was extremely proud of all the kids and their behavior with all the fun and excitement that went on. We really do have great kids!
Last night was the Fall Festival. A special thank you to all of our teachers who stayed late on their own time to provide this opportunity for kids. We had pumpkin bowling, tattoos, cake walks, selfie-stations, gross museum, Day of the Dead activities, lollipop spiders, the haunted garden, and the infamous Haunted House produced by 6th graders. We provided this event free this year because of the amount raised for the Fun Run which enables PTA to help out with additional support of NRE. I truly love seeing families talking with one another, kids smiling and having a great time with friends, and all the middle and high schoolers that come back each year because NRE is still their home. We really do amazing things with our fabulous families and between all the hustle and bustle of life, it's important to stop and think about how lucky we are to be together. Thank you. Thank you for coming out to support your kids and NRE.
We have some more things we are planning for right now; Veteran's Day which is coming up in the next couple weeks and our STEM Fair that will be in January. Do you or someone you know serve in the forces (Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard? If so, please fill out this form to attend. We look forward to celebrating and honoring our loved ones.
Do you work in a STEM field and would you like to have a booth presentation for our STEM fair in January? If so, please email me at kmlynch@dcsdk12.org so we can put your name on a list to send you more information. The STEM Fair is January 26 from 5pm - 7pm at Northridge Elementary. We will have individual student, group, and class projects to view and we will also have the STAR Lab back again which is always a hit.
I hope you enjoy the extra day with your child(ren). Please make sure to go over the safety guidelines Keep Trick or Treaters Safe this Halloween with your child to help keep everybody safe.
