The NRE School Accountability Committee held a special meeting this morning to talk about the Bond/MLO that is on the ballots this year.  The committee voted to approve the Resolution below.  All employees of DCSD who serve on the committee abstained from the vote due to the conflict of interest that arises.  Please take a minute to read the Resolution. Here is the video of the meeting if you would like to watch it.

Principal Letter

Dear NRE Community -

This week came and went like an afternoon thunderstorm. We had the Book Fair, Outdoor Ed, teachers were prepping for conferences and the count down to Fall Break has begun.

I am SO proud of our 6th graders and what they accomplished this week. We took about 80 students to YMCA Camp of the Rockies at Granby. Students put so many steps in each day and averaged between 18,000-36,000 steps depending on if it was a full day or a half day. They explored the mountains, went zip lining, rollerskating, played basketball, had bonfires, participated in olympics, did team building and much much more. While the food was less than desirable, their attitudes and willingness to try new things was amazing.

I met with the YMCA staff at the end of our trip to ask how it went.  They said NRE had the best kids and they told their director that we should come back every year. I was honored they felt this way because I know I feel this way, but it's always great when someone else recognizes it. They said our students were helpful, smart, kind, and truly went above and beyond what they thought 6th graders could do. Thank you for sharing your kids with us.

I would like to thank our 6th grade teachers for doing all of the leg work to make it happen and especially Carrie Fank for getting us all organized. The 6th grade teachers started planning this trip last year around this time and continued to plan to make sure each detail was perfect and ready to go; they even planned amazing weather. :) We had other staff members attend that I would like to show my appreciation for: Ashley Smith (Main Office Secretary), Alex Anttila (SSN Teacher), Julie Kast (Think Tank Teacher), and Brett Peters (Kindie EA).  A shout out to our other chaperones from DCSD who shared in the fun and guidance, Justin Kast (HRHS Engineering Teacher), Patrick Giles (HRHS Science Teacher), and Phil Ranford (Director of Academic Systems and a former principal in DCSD). Lastly, Jenny Namkoong was our nurse up at Outdoor Ed and she was fantastic too. We could not have done it without all of these adults to help make our trip a success.

I will post some pictures below but our 6th graders will see many more pictures of the trip so they can remember this adventure for a lifetime!

We look forward to next week's conferences to share how your child(ren) are doing. We do have school Monday through Friday next week but then your child(ren) do have the following week completely off. It's hard to believe the first quarter of the school year is almost done.

I'm off to rest from the busy week but I wouldn't have traded it for anything. I'm so thankful our 6th graders had the opportunity to experience Outdoor Ed in the beautiful mountains with amazing friends and adults.
