New Important Dates for the 23-24 school year will be released by the end of June and sent to our families as soon as possible.
Summer Reading Program!
We would love for your students to participate in the Summer Reading Program this summer! The Douglas County Libraries Foundation will give $500 each to the elementary, middle, high and other (K-12 or charter) school that signs up the most readers for Summer Reading with DCL.
NRE won last year and we would love to win again!
Registration:
Students can register NOW online at DCL.org/summer-reading.
On-site registration will be available at all DCL locations
(except Castle Rock) beginning June 3.
Participants should include your school name and their grade when they register so your school gets credit. The Summer Reading contest runs through July 31; people can register through the last day. The winning schools will receive their $500 prizes in August.
Remember to bring your READING LOG to the NRE library in the Fall
and I will also give you a prize!
Thank you so much and have a wonderful summer reading!! :).
I know I will! :)

NRE Librarian
The EPRs will be available on Saturday, May 27 @ 9am when DCSD releases them.
Our NRE students have worked hard this school year and we are so proud of them! It’s hard to believe but we just finished another school year. Teachers have put in a great deal of time analyzing students’ skills and communicating their progress and we are excited to share that information with you through the Elementary Progress Reports (EPRs). Please see the information below to find out more about EPRs:
Elementary Progress Report Parent Access
To access your child’s EPR, you will log in through the EngagED Parent dashboard at engaged.dcsdk12.org
You will login using the same username and password that you have created for Infinite Campus. If you already have a Parent Portal account and cannot remember how to access it, please visit https://www.dcsdk12.org/faqs-for-parent-accounts
Layout Information:
The EPR is divided into different sections. First it will show their content knowledge grades related to the subject areas of Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Math as well as any overall/general comments that a teacher has made about your student. You may also see an Essential Skill tagged to a particular content area. Following academic content, you will see ratings for Music and PE.
The rating scale for content standards and grade level expectations (GLEs) remain the same as it has been in years past (See table below):
Essential Skills:
The Essential Skills identified by the Colorado Department of Education and within the ColoradoAcademic Standards are listed in the table below.
“The essential skills are not locked in by grade level since new learning, regardless of age/grade, often starts at a novice/beginner level.” This means that students might be anywhere on the continuum and not be considered below grade level. Teachers will report on those skills that are most relevant to the learning this year for their classroom. For this semester, most teachers will only report out on Personal Responsibility.
We are excited to share your child’s progress with you and can’t thank you enough for your ongoing partnership in your child’s learning. What a great first half of the year it has been!

Principal, Northridge Elementary
Northridge Community,
It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that I will not be returning to Northridge next year. Over the past five years I have been commuting an hour to our amazing school. The commute has worn on me and my two little ones need me closer to home. I can truly say that the Northridge students, community, and staff are the best I have ever worked with. I cannot thank you enough for your support, trust, and partnership. I will be sharing this news with our students on Monday, May 22. I will miss you all immensely and I hope to see you at after school events next year.
Have a wonderful summer!
Sincerely, Mrs. Kristina Hilton
Thank you all for your support and time this year!
Dear NRE Community,
Phew! We made it! We finished our 40th year at Northridge Elementary School and while the days sometimes seemed long, the school year flew by so fast.
We had our final SAC meeting of the year on May 12. Thank you to our SAC Board Members Tamara, Virginia, Wayne, Dita, Cathy, and Lindsey for coming to the meetings, doing the extra work, and putting NRE kids first in your advocacy. A special thank you Tamara as the SAC Chair for meeting separately, bringing in guest presenters and being so passionate about the School Accountability Committee. There were different topics covered today but the topic that seems to be keeping people up at night is the topic of "marrying schools" or closing schools. If you are interested in seeing or hearing about this information, please click the links for the agenda, google slides, or for watching the SAC presentation.
In these last couple of weeks of school, we welcomed our 2023 graduating seniors that went to NRE to come do a Senior Clap Out! The seniors walked through the hallways as students and staff clapped. They enjoyed Eileen's cookies and lemonade in the cafeteria and then visited teachers and reminisced about their days at NRE. There were tears of great memories, a little bit of sadness of growing up, and also for how safe they felt here in elementary school. We hope they continue to "Be a Good Person" as is our feeder motto and carry their kindness to where ever life takes them.
I was so thankful for the weather for our MVHS graduation at Red Rocks as well as my own daughter's graduation; it also was beautiful for Field Day and NRE 6th grade and kindergarten graduations. It's such a busy end of the year with wonderful celebrations. Thank you all so much for being such a great part of our why NRE is so successful! We continue toeducate kids but more importantly love them, nurture them, and teach the whole child.
As we continue planning for next year, we want you to know that we did not do Edukits or School Tool Box this year for supplies. We priced out what they were charging versus what you can get at the store and it was at least $25 more expensive. We know everything is costing more these days and we want to make sure each dollar you spend is worth it. Please watch for sales during the summer for school supplies. Here is the link if you have a student returning to NRE for next year (make sure to use the tabs at the bottom for the correct grade).
As soon as we have the Important Dates figured out for next year, we will send an email so you can start adding these to your family calendar. Please also plan for the Supply Drop Off/Meet the Teacher to be on Monday, August 7, from 3:00-5:00 with more details to come in that email.
Enjoy your summer, be safe, and read lots of great books!
Sincerely,
Katie
