Weekly Blast                                                 December9, 2022

NRE 2022 Snow Pile is almost here!!

The NRE Snowpile helps relieve the burden of holiday shopping for families dealing with critical health issues at Children’s Hospital in Highlands Ranch.  We are so excited to be able to work with Children's Hospital South again - the toy drive is a great way for children to connect their gratitude and empathy for other children. The generosity and love Northridge families have shown in previous years has been amazing!  THANK YOU!

Please drop off all gifts any time during school hours the week of December 14th-21st.   We will have a table in the NRE Front Lobby.

 THANK YOU!!THANK YOU!!THANK YOU!!

School Accountability Committee (SAC)

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our joint PTA/SAC meeting last month!  It was wonderful to see new faces and to engage with the wonderful NRE community on the important topics discussed!

There will not be a SAC meeting for the month of December.

We are excited to announce that we will have a presentation by Angela Frank, the Vice Chair of The State Advisory Council for Parent Involvement in Education (SACPIE) at our next meeting Friday, January 13th!  As always, SAC meetings are open to every member of the NRE community, and we encourage you to attend either in person (7:30am in the library) or online via Zoom. We hope you will be able to join us!

Many people are unaware of the School Accountability Committee (SAC) and the roles a SAC plays within a school.  In hopes of remedying this issue, (and to hopefully make attending  and participating SAC meetings more appealing) , we have decided to add a little section below called "Meet your SAC Members".

Meet Your SAC Members!

 Wayne Marrs-  SAC Vice Chair

Q: What does Someone in your role on the SAC do?

a: I help plan and I preside over meetings when the Chair is not in attendance.

Q: Why did you join the SAC?

a:  We plan to be at NRE for a long time, so I wanted to get involved in school decisions that may affect our kids and future generations of Pronghorns.

Q: What are some interesting facts about you?

a:  Prior to moving to Colorado, I was a high altitude mountaineering and ski guide in Alaska for many years. I guided in Wrangell St Elias National Park - the largest park in the country that no one has heard of. Aside from Antarctica, it is the most glaciated terrain on earth. I married Gaia, a local raft guide, and we eventually bought the two guide services that we worked for. We love to travel, and have been to about 40 countries, many very rugged and remote such as Madagascar, Myanmar, Tonga, Colombia and Cambodia.

Dear NRE Community -

8 more days and counting, but seriously, who is counting?!?!? I will say that our students and staff are counting down just based on the excitement and misbehaviors of our students :)

We started the day with a school wide Zoom meeting to talk about PRIDE behaviors. One of the reasons I came to NRE is because I love the unique diversity that NRE has to offer. We have 33 languages spoken here, many different cultures, religions, races, and unique aspects to our school. I love the variety of options we offer our students and the love that our students and staff have for each other. The past week we have had some behaviors that we don't typically see but we needed to address. We have had some students peeing on the floors of the bathrooms in the male restrooms and doing graffiti on the walls. In our meeting, I addressed our students with why our NRE students are the best, why it's important to take care of others and build one another up instead of tearing each other down. I also spoke about Mr. Dean and how fabulous he is and how he doesn't want to clean up urine/pee and that we should be holding doors open, saying please and thank you, and taking care of our school instead. Please take a moment to talk with your child(ren) about ediquette in the bathrooms and being their best everytime. I hope next week is much better. 8 more days...

Today we had our infamous Holiday Shop and it did not disappoint. We had many different vendors for students, staff, and our community to shop from. There were a variety of assortments of earrings, ornaments, candies, gifts, knitted/crocheted items, and hot cocoa/cider as well. Students were so excited to shop and every student had the ability whether they had cash or Dash cash to spend. Our PTA did a wonderful job getting everyone in the holiday spirit. We are so thankful for you all. My favorite part of the shop was our Watch Dog Dad today noticed two students who weren't shopping because they had forgotten their money. He stepped in, got them money, and made their day. How did I find out about it? One of our specials teachers was brought to tears by the kindness and shared not only the picture but the story with me. It takes a community and we have the best!

PTA was not only busy with our Holiday Shop but they fed our staff today too with Parry's Pizza! Today is Restaurant Night at Parry's Pizza so they took advantage of it and ordered us lunch too. Thank you so much for thinking of us and filling us with excellent food. We are so thankful for all the support and love you give to us throughout the year.

As we wind down the semester, we want to remind you to take time to take care of yourself too. It's easy to get into the craziness of the season and continue shopping, cleaning, and cooking. BUT... it is okay to go for a walk, sit in silence to meditate, go for a hike, or call a dear friend that you have been putting off. Connect with someone you have missed. I am so thankful for so many people and I'm so lucky to have such support system in my life. I'm going to disconnect shortly and enjoy the moments with them and I hope you are able to as well. Enjoy the weekend and get ready for some snow next week.
