The SAC meeting held on the morning of Friday the 13th was a great meeting, thank you to all who attended! Angela Frank, the Vice Chairperson and our representative on the SACPIE gave an awesome and informative presentation. She covered the value of parent engagement within schools, discussed studies that showed how such parental engagement impacts schools, and offered ideas on how we can encourage even more engagement from our awesome parent community.
Our next meeting will be held on Friday, February 10th at 7:30am. Our meetings, as always, are open to all NRE community members and we hope you will consider attending if you have not done so in the past. Feel free to bring along your kiddos, and send them off to class once the morning bell rings. We think attending SAC meetings is one great way to demonstrate and encourage your children to be involved and speak-up and out in areas that are important to them.
Here is the link of the GoogleSlides used in the presentation. Unfortunately, Zoom and Wifi were not on our side for the meeting and a recording did not take place.
Dita Merritt - PTA Liaison
Q: What does Someone in your role on the SAC do?
a. I Give SAC updates on PTA activites and events
Q: Why did you join the SAC?
a. I serve two roles on the PTA, one is as the President and also as the SAC Liaison.
Q: What are some interesting facts about you?
a. Born and raised in Prague, Czech Republic, came to the US to play tennis at DU and stayed after I met my husband. Both of my children are also dual citizens and we go back almost every summer. Not growing up here, my ideas about PTA came from movies and TV shows :) I love spending time outdoors, travelling, reading and being active with my family. I am a small business owner and try to balance work with kids and PTA as well as I can. Northridge has become an extended family to us and we couldn't imagine being at any other school.
Dear NRE Community -
It was a crazy, choppy week with only 3 days of school. I tend to think 4 day school weeks are harder on kids and then when you throw a Snow Day in the middle of the week, it really does amp them up a little more! To add more fuel to the fire we also added two Wish Week assemblies to the mix on Tuesday.
Wish Week is coming up and it is one of my favorite times because our feeder comes together for a greater purpose. This year our Wish Kid is Lucy and she is all about fashion. Our students got to learn a little bit about Lucy through our MVHS student leaders. There will be restaurant nights, a community fair, and much much more coming up. Wish Week will be the week of February 6th and our Student Council has come up with dress up days to get our students involved in the fun. We will post more information in the coming weeks.
Next week we have our STEM Fair which is Thursday evening from 5pm -7pm. We hope you are able to come. We will have student science experiments, the Star Lab, presenters, and there will be lots of fun to be had. We hope to see you there!
On Thursday Night, we had our District Accountability Meeting and one of the things we talked about was our upcoming Career Pathway Expo that is coming up on February 16th at the Legacy Center (formerly called the Wildlife Experience). This expo has previous been called the DAC Winter Forum and has provided an opportunity to engage parents on many different topics. This year will be focused around the many different pathways for our high school students but don't let that scare you. Now is the time to learn about this so that when your student(s) get to high school, you already know the opportunities that are available to them. There are only 500 spots avialable and you must sign up to attend (it's free). There is a link below in the District and Other Information section and I will be there. I hope you mark it on your calendar and you can join me too.
Lastly in Mandarin this week, students learned about the Chinese New Year and it is the year of the rabbit. Students made their own red banners to celebrate. I love students learning about cultures from around the world and celebrating one another. The smiles tell it all.
Enjoy your weekend and Go Bills!

For 65 years, the Douglas County School District has been guiding students through discovery, exploration, and skill development to find a purpose and determine the best path for the future.
The Expo will highlight Postsecondary Readiness options available to our students including Career and Technical Education, Concurrent Enrollment, and Work-based Learning experiences. Students from across the district will share insights from participating in these programs and how the experience is preparing them to succeed in the future.
There will be a short program beginning at 6:30, however attendees may arrive anytime and explore all of the student-run stations at their own pace. There will also be guided tours of the Legacy Campus throughout the evening. Register for the event here.
