Dear NRE!

Our fall Scholastic Book Fair was a great success!  Thank you so much for your generosity!  We rang in over $10,000.00!  Amazing!  I know getting here and finding a place to park last week was not easy, so we really appreciate you making a point to come back at different times.

Thank you also to the many volunteers that helped me set up and run the registers during my busy times!  I really appreciate you all so much!

SAC News

The NRE School Accountability Committee held a special meeting this morning to talk about the Bond/MLO that is on the ballots this year.  The committee voted to approve the Resolution below.  All employees of DCSD who serve on the committee abstained from the vote due to the conflict of interest that arises.  Please take a minute to read the Resolution. Here is the video of the meeting if you would like to watch it.

Have questions or comments?  We want to hear from you!

Our next  scheduled meeting will be a special joint meeting with NRE's awesome  PTA.  We encourage you to join us on November 8, at 6:15pm in the schools library (and also will be held via Zoom for those that cannot be there in person). This upcoming meeting will be a GREAT opportunity to meet and engage with your school's SAC representatives,  hear exciting news from your incredible and dedicated PTA members,  and to learn all about the current and future happenings at the school directly from the school's administration .  At NRE, every SAC meeting encourages participants to engage themselves and to ask any questions they may have.

Typically, the SAC meetings are held in the morning hours.  This upcoming November meeting is special not only as all the major school entities (administration/Staff, SAC, and the PTA)  will all be in attendance, but also because the meeting will be held in the evening hours for those who may have found it difficult to attend the early morning monthly SAC meetings.

We look forward to see you!

Principal Letter

Dear NRE Community -

It is hard to believe we have finished a quarter of the school year! What happened during this time? We welcome new and returning students to NRE with a Back to School Carnival, we had the biggest Fun Run and prize day experience in NRE history, we celebrated at Multicultural Fair and we taught kids in between all of this.

The first quarter is always so busy but be careful because the second quarter goes even faster. After Fall Break, we have four weeks until Thanksgiving Break and then another 3.6 weeks until Winter Break. Between all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, we also have our Fall Festival, Halloween Parade, PTA/SAC Meeting, Holiday Shop, Snow Pile and much much more. Sometimes all the hustle and bustle of the holidays and the craziness of getting ready for everything, we forget to slow down and be present in the moment.

Before I end the letter, I would like to thank our PTA and all the parents who have spoiled our staff this week with food for conferences. We felt the love in every bite and we are so appreciative of you all! Thank you for all the time and energy you put into NRE; it doesn't go unnoticed.

Thank you for being on this journey with me and I hope you have a wonderful, restful Fall Break. I will be hiking and outdoors as much as possible and I have a couple of college visits planned with my oldest daughter.

See you on October 28th!

District and Other Information

Be Ready for Weather Delays/Closures in DCSD

Douglas County School District takes the safety of our students, staff, parents and community members seriously. Our district is huge - spanning approximately 850 square miles - and conditions can vary from one region to another.

Because many of our families and staff travel across the school district, any weather delay or closure will apply to the entire school district (unless otherwise indicated).

The decision to close, delay or keep a school open during inclement weather is never taken lightly. We always keep the safety of our students, staff, and parents top of mind. Factors including snowfall, wind chill, road conditions and more are all taken into consideration.

As always, on days where DCSD’s Snow Team is activated and a delay or closure is not implemented, we respect the decision of our parents to keep their child home, if necessary. Please call your child's school and this will be an excused absence.

Delays

When DCSD is on a 90-minute delay, all schools begin 90-minutes after regular start times.

Bus routes are also delayed by 90-minutes, so students should plan to be picked up one and a half hours later than normal. DCSD before school care (BASE) also begins 90-minutes later than normal. Dismissal times remain the same. Click here to view delayed start times for each school.

Closures

All DCSD buildings are closed, and activities, sports, BASE programs, and facility rentals are cancelled.

How Do I Find Out?

In the event of a delay or closure, the information will be posted on the DCSD website. We will also post updates on the DCSD Facebook and Twitter accounts, the DCSD mobile app, and on local media outlets. We will also send an email and text message to our staff and families.

Elementary Discovery Program:

2023-2024 Application Process Now Open

The DCSD Elementary Discovery Program is a center-based gifted program designed to meet the needs of highly advanced gifted elementary school students (grades 2 - 6) who require intensity of instruction and acceleration beyond what can reasonably be expected from gifted programming and services provided through their school.
