With the upcoming Thanksgiving celebration, I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude for our school. I am thankful for our amazing teachers and staff – a group of people who are not only in charge of our children’s education, but who also play a big role in their personal growth and overall well-being. From the administration to the office staff, from classroom teachers, specials teachers, BASE staff, EA’s and counselors, to the building engineer and lunchroom staff, we are fortunate to have amazing individuals who truly care about the children at NRE. I am also grateful for our great community; we have had an incredible year so far, with many fun events and experiences for our students, and we couldn’t do it all without your participation and support. Thank you all and have a wonderful Thanksgiving break!

Dear NRE Community -
This morning started with a 90 minute delay because of the Colorado weather, it certainly didn't start like the weather my hometown is getting; Buffalo is expecting 6 to 7 feet of snow! Yep, you read that correctly, FEET of snow - that's 72 inches of fun in my opinion! I know we could use the moisture, but I was happy my house only got about 7 inches of snow so I could get to work to help Dean finish clearing the path for our students and staff. Mr. Dean got here at 4am to do most of the work for us and Ms. Nickie and Ms. G helped out too! Luckily Dean did the majority of the work and we were just his sidekicks.
I hope you all take this week to think about the things that you have in your life that you are thankful for in your life. I often get so busy between running a school, being the mom of two teenagers, having aging parents and two siblings and their families, that I often forget to think about all of the things that I am truly thankful for and there are many. Stop, think, and listen. Even pour yourself a cup of tea or coffee and put down your phone for a moment and think of your top five things that you are most thankful for in life.
I was talking to my best friend since 3rd grade who is a special education teacher on the island I grew up on and we were talking about what percentage of our students in each of perspective schools celebrate Thanksgiving and what kinds of engaging questions she could ask her class. I asked her how her 6th grade students would answer a question like "What do you think children in other continents are thankful for?" She paused for a second and said, "I don't know but I'll ask them" and then guess what happened? She got a snow day today. Ha!
I hope you have some time off of work to enjoy your family and be festive; whatever that looks like for your family. I will be turning off my work brain to soak up the time with my family, friends, and the outside air.
