Welcome to art class!
The overall objective of the National Core Arts Standards is for students to think and problem solve like artists. The program is designed so students have to grapple and push themselves to work collaboratively, be creative, and embed meaning and content into the artworks they create. They will do this while gaining skills in drawing, painting, sculpting, and composition, with the additional goals of developing areas of interest for life-long learning. Ultimately, the program seeks to inspire students and provide them with the tools necessary to better see and appreciate the world around them and to express their own visions, artistically.
Please pay close attention to the Google Classroom and JumpRope:
The most significant thing I would like to get across is that this is a rigorous program where effort is required to be successful and earn Performance Indicators (PIs). To help support students, my physical and digital door is always open for those seeking help. Under normal circumstances I am available in my classroom around 6:30 in the morning until school starts (occasionally I have meetings, so students are encouraged to email or call ahead) and students are welcome any other time that they have availability during the day. Furthermore, my goal is for no project score to be final until a few weeks or so before report cards. Every student can tweak, improve, or redo any projects that have met Due Date and Deadline expectations, to show growth and earn proficiency in any missed PIs.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or comments. Student, teacher, and parent communication is key to universal success!
Very Sincerely,
-Eric Howard
