The drawing I chose was the gray building, the gray building is a big part of Northfield and in my personal life. The main reason I chose the gray building was because when I was between the age of 4-10 I attended dance classes there with my closest friends. Not only was It a big part of my childhood it was also a part of my parents childhood, they were growing up and they attended school there. I really think that the gray building has been a part of lots of people's lives who’ve grown up and lived in town weather not you did dance there, or went to school there or attended boys and girls club.
The first element that I wanted to stand out and present was the red chimney and the red door. The red was my popping color and I had to make sure it would stand out. My other critical element was definitely my dark gray shadow, this was so important because if I didn’t have it the building would look flat and have no dimension. I learned from John Knox’s photography, when I take the photo I should have it on one big picture and to not have so many elements in the photo. I also learned I should have lights and darks to make it look 3D not 2D.Sabra Fields' work had a very small color palette, I really liked the fact that she used very limited colors. As I made my banner I used that technique of a small color palette and when I needed a different shad all I did was add a little white or black so I knew that they would go together and not look so choppy.
