My contribution to the community project is a painting of the North parade ground at Norwich. The first time I saw the parade ground I was shocked at how pretty it was, and the addition of the cannon gives the Norwich feel of Northfield. so it represents Vermont well. The imposing feeling of looking down a field lined with trees is something I wanted to capture. The feeling makes viewers want to stay and take in everything, similar to how they'd feel in person. While looking at John Knox's photos, I realized that having a clean paint with no paint brush streaks or lines, makes these look a lot cleaner. Sometimes a lack of texture is good. Sabra Field does a great job with shadows and perspective which is vital for trying to get that long field feeling I was talking about earlier. This painting is a combination of inspiration from Vermont scenery and artists.
