My artwork is the Motyka sugar shack. I'm not super connected to this place as I've only been there a couple of times. However, I believe it has a deep connection to Northfield, as the Motyka family has been in Northfield for a while. Also the fact that it's a sugar shack also has the Vermont feel. As to the crucial element, the most important part of my work would definitely be the building. Since it's the focal point of the banner. It’s what the banner is showing off. But other than that, the nature surrounding the building is also important because it shows off Vermont. I definitely wanted to add some of the things that inspired me from John Knox and Sabra Fields. From John Knox, I learned how important the atmosphere of a picture is. Since in his pictures it always seems to give off a tone, and a different tone with every picture. Also the layers of the work such as the background were very interesting. As for Fields, her simplicity was really the main thing that stuck out to me in her work as an object or surface was only one color. And that really went into my own banner.
