Any time I go anywhere from my house, I pass the Dog River Park. Built after Irene destroyed houses along the street, it stands as a representation of our community coming together to turn a disaster around. I really wanted to highlight the wooden structure at the park, because it is the most defining element of the park apart from the surrounding nature. Sabra Field used simple colors to convey a textured and detailed scene. I really found this minimalistic project refreshing and inspiring how the whole piece fits like a puzzle. John Knox and his photographs showed me how an image can display the emotions connected to that area simply through framing. I call my art Dog River Park. This title is apt because not only is it on the Dog River, it was created after the river flooded the town during Irene, causing the community to come together and support each other. Now, out of that tragedy we have a beautiful park enjoyed by all who go there.
