In this class we will survey art from across Central and South America and the Caribbean, with a common unifying theme of social justice and liberation. You will learn about the cultural and transformational power of art to explore, reveal, highlight, and heal.
We will begin by exploring Orozco's Dartmouth Library mural that is a visual history of Latin America, and we will then explore many different art forms such as Chilean dissent quilts and beyond. Students will learn about these art forms and then explore them, themselves.
The course will culminate in collaborative community art projects that highlight and inform about a current social justice issue. This project, or these projects, will live on in the school and community for years to come.
