I chose to paint the Falls General Store because ever since it has been restored it has stood out to me as a very nice looking building that has great food and a great atmosphere. I think it helps to represent Northfield by being a good example of how old the town is while it is still a very well kept and nice building. Some of the features I wanted to highlight in the banner are the styling of the building that make it appear it could still be from 1892, the year on the side of the building. I did this by creating much more simple lines and simplifying colors to make edges pop. I took inspiration from John Knox’s photos and applied them to my banner through the use of foreground, middle, and background which brought depth to my banner. I used ideas from Sabra’s Field’s artwork to further make my work stand out and be identifiable; simplifying any textured surfaces like the clapboard siding that is smooth on the banner to make it look better from a distance as opposed to small lines all over.
