Christmas Café: 20 November

What a joyful way for our Grade 3s to conclude an exciting year in the Junior Primary!

To celebrate the festive season, they welcomed the Grade 2s and their teachers to a charming Christmas Café thoughtfully prepared just for them.

In the weeks leading up to the occasion, the Grade 3s worked collaboratively in small groups, planning every detail with care and creativity. They crafted menus, coordinated responsibilities, and designed and delivered their own invitations.

Their preparations extended far beyond this. The children carefully planned the food and drinks, selected table décor, and organised the cutlery and crockery to ensure their café looked and felt warm and inviting. By Thursday, the excitement was palpable. The young chefs were hard at work in the kitchen, the barmen mixed refreshing festive drinks, and the waitstaff served their guests with pride and wholehearted enthusiasm.

It was a delightful experience, one that captured the spirit of the season and showcased the Grade 3s’ teamwork, imagination, and sense of occasion. No doubt they will have plenty of inspiration to share when their families begin planning Christmas dinner this year!

Day Trip to Hilton College Reserve: 6 November

The Grade 3 outing to the Hilton College Nature Reserve was a resounding success. The boys and girls had the opportunity to connect with nature, witness the beauty of wildlife, and explore the fascinating dynamics of freshwater ecosystems. The day was filled with adventure, curiosity, and shared moments of discovery.

Throughout the visit, the children rotated between engaging activities — some enjoyed creating and recording music in the Hilton College music block, while others embarked on an exciting game drive through the reserve. These experiences not only deepened their appreciation for the natural world but also reinforced the importance of environmental awareness and conservation.

This memorable day will remain a highlight of the year, offering the children a meaningful blend of learning, friendship, and wonder against the beautiful backdrop of the Hilton College Nature Reserve.

Trip to BergVenture: 21 - 23 October

Grade 3s Wrap Up the Year with an Unforgettable Berg Adventure

To celebrate the end of a wonderful year of learning and growth, our Grade 3 children set off on their final Junior Primary excursion, an exciting and joy-filled adventure to the breathtaking Central Drakensberg.

Their journey began at Falcon Ridge, a remarkable bird of prey sanctuary dedicated to the rehabilitation of injured raptors. Against the dramatic mountain backdrop, the children were enthralled as they watched eagles, owls, and falcons take flight during a live demonstration. It was an inspiring experience that beautifully highlighted the importance of conservation and respect for all living things.

The adventure continued at Bergventure, where the children immersed themselves in three days of outdoor exploration, courage, and teamwork. From abseiling down rocky slopes and horse riding along scenic trails, to ziplining, tackling the muddy obstacle course, and hiking to a cascading waterfall, every activity brought new challenges and unforgettable moments of joy.

Amidst the fun and excitement, there was also plenty of time for connection and reflection. Shared mealtimes, laughter, and words of encouragement deepened friendships and strengthened the sense of community that is so special within Clifton. Team-building activities encouraged perseverance, problem-solving, and collaboration- all essential skills that will serve the children well as they move forward in their learning journey.

This experience was far more than just an outing, it was a celebration of bravery, growth, and wholehearted participation. We are confident that Bergventure 2025 will be remembered by our Grade 3s as one of the defining highlights of their Junior Primary years.

Outing to MHS Science Department: 16 October

A Day of Discovery

The Grade 3s recently enjoyed an exciting Science Day outing to the beautiful Michaelhouse campus, surrounded by rolling lawns and fresh country air. From the moment we arrived, there was a buzz of excitement as the children eagerly prepared for a morning filled with fascinating experiments and scientific surprises.

We began our day in true scientist style, donning our safety goggles and learning about the importance of safety and precautions when working with different materials. The experiments ranged from colourful and foamy elephant’s toothpaste to a thrilling moment where we safely lit our hands on fire — all under expert supervision, of course!

The children were amazed as they explored acids and bases, witnessed small explosions, and learned about air pressure through a can-crushing experiment that cleverly linked to the real-world Titanic submarine incident. Each activity sparked curiosity, laughter, and plenty of “wow” moments as our young scientists experimented, questioned, and discovered.

To end off a day full of wonder, we took a scenic walk down to the Michaelhouse dam, where we were treated to one final, spectacular experiment. Surrounded by the beauty of nature, it was the perfect conclusion to a day filled with learning, excitement, and hands-on fun.

The Science Day outing was truly a highlight of the term — a day where curiosity met creativity, and our Grade 3s were reminded that science isn’t just something you learn about; it’s something you experience!
