Grade 2: Termly Reflection

Term 4 has been a wonderfully busy and memorable time for our Grade 2 children. As the year draws to a close, we reflect with pride on the many activities, experiences, and achievements that made this term so special.

First on the agenda was our adventure to Tala Private Game Reserve was certainly a highlight! The children were thrilled to spot giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and many more animals in their natural habitat. Guided drives and interactive talks taught the children about conservation, animal behaviour, and the importance of protecting our environment. The excitement and curiosity shown by the children made the day truly unforgettable.

Half-term was ushered in by our annual Boeresportdag which brought energy, laughter, and plenty of friendly competition. From sack races to three-legged races and egg-and-spoon challenges, our Grade 2s participated with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship. It was a day filled with team spirit and proud smiles as learners encouraged one another and celebrated every effort and achievement.

The Talking Drums presentation gave our learners a vibrant cultural experience. Through rhythm, movement, and storytelling, the children explored the power of music as a universal language. They loved playing the drums and learning how rhythm can connect people and tell stories across cultures.

To welcome the festive season, the Grade 3s hosted a charming Christmas Café, and our Grade 2 learners were delighted to be guests. With cheerful decorations, delicious food and sweet treats, a warm and joyful atmosphere was created. The Grade 2s enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate together and feel the magic of Christmas within our school community.

As we close Term 4, we celebrate a year filled with growth, friendship, discovery, and fun. Our Grade 2 learners have worked hard and shown wonderful progress in all areas. We are incredibly proud of each one of them and grateful for the support of our parents and teachers.

We wish all our families a restful holiday and a joyful festive season.

Trip to Tala Game Reserve: 13 - 15 October

Our final Grade 2 trip of the year was a firm favourite among the children. On Monday, 13 October, we set off down the mountain to Tala Game Reserve, filled with anticipation and excitement. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the Spirit of Adventure team. After a quick snack and some fun icebreakers, the children spent the afternoon exploring the beautiful reserve — solving puzzles, hunting for treasure, and taking on the obstacle course with enthusiasm and bravery.

Day 2 was action-packed with a full and exciting itinerary. The morning began with an educational nature walk through the reserve, led by the knowledgeable Ranger Rick. This was followed by a spectacular bird show and a fascinating visit to the African Raptor Centre, where the children had the privilege of seeing rare and endangered birds of prey, including vultures, owls, eagles, and even the magnificent Secretary Bird. There was much excitement when they were introduced to a baby alligator and a friendly terrapin named Chip!

After lunch, the long-awaited game drive began. The children were thrilled to spot a variety of wildlife, including rhinoceros and hippopotamus. Following a hot day in the sun, a refreshing swim in the pool was just what everyone needed before settling in for the evening’s adventures. As always, no Spirit of Adventure trip would be complete without the famous night-time game, Stalk the Lantern — a highlight for many!

On the final morning, the children explored the nearby riverbed, learning about the animals that thrive in riverine habitats. Sadly, it was soon time to say goodbye to Tala. Throughout the trip, our Clifton children embodied the school’s values of respect, perseverance, bravery, and whole-heartedness — embracing each challenge, showing curiosity for the natural world, and supporting one another with kindness and teamwork.

A heartfelt thank you to our hosts at Spirit of Adventure for another unforgettable experience that allowed our children to learn, grow, and connect deeply with the beauty of creation.
