Dear Parents,
I hope you are all well as we settle into the final term and enjoy the first hints of summer weather, which made an appearance on Tuesday, if only briefly.
It recently dawned on me that Monday would be my last opportunity to deliver an assembly message, and so we had some fun showing how life is like a muffin.
The ingredients needed to make muffins are like the events in our lives. Some taste good while others are difficult to swallow. A number of willing (I think) but definitely sporting ‘victims’ demonstrated this by eating one ingredient from the recipe in front of the audience.
As you can imagine, as the children, interns, staff, and even one brave parent soldiered through their allocated ingredients, the sugar and milk went down easily, the water was OK, and salt, baking powder, and bicarbonate of soda proved hard to swallow. The flour and cocoa powder caused plenty of hilarity, but it was the raw eggs that truly brought the house down!
I hope the children, through the hilarity, will remember the message, that life really is like a muffin. In life we experience both happy and sad days; times when we hurt and times when we don’t; appreciate people who are builders and we have to cope with bulldozers too.
When all the ingredients are mixed, the batter tastes pretty good. But to make the muffins, the batter has to be baked and the heat of the oven, which turns the batter into muffins, is like persevering through the toughest challenges in life, building character and making us the best people we can be.
