In this term 2 assignment, we were told to make a song for our summative assessment. The song that my group made was called broken home. Broken home, a song with soft background music that enhances the vocals and makes the vibe deeper. Our song got inspiration from lo-fi. From this project, we learned how to create a song and learn the basic structure.

This is my composition for an original short-trailer remake, as a result of the collaboration between Music and Media class for Y9 and Y10. The group that I worked with created a romantic take on the movie Split (2016) and reformatted it to fit into that concept. Thus, I worked on the music, based on the recommendations that they had given me. I was inspired by teenage-romance songs from the likes of Dominic Fike, and Frank Ocean, to create this piece. However, I also added my style and touches, which made it fit more into the atmosphere of the script and trailer. I learned many things about the process of composing for a certain medium, and a glimpse as to how they do it in real life. I picked this work because it is the work I am most proud of for Music this year.

A video that contains deep and critical thoughts from a young music observer from Cikal Surabaya, Raffi. In this video, we will be invited to think about the polemic that occurred in the Indonesian music scene, especially the issues of the Copyright Law and plagiarism from several points of view.

CITY POP IMPROV IN A MINOR (PENTATONIC)

In this assignment, I did an improvisation (spontant music-making) performance on the guitar tailored to the A minor pentatonic scale accompanied by a premade city pop jazz-funk backing track. Since I was pretty new to the theory and practice of doing improvisation, I was able to learn a lot about it through research in the City Pop genre itself and through exploring different spontantly created rhythms and melodies whilst practicing improvisations in my free-time and in-lessons. My inspiration for this performance was from the feeling of being carefree and trying to encompass the smoothly grooved feel of the genre.

AMBIENT CLASSICAL COMPOSITION - WITHERING SPRING

In this assignment, I composed an ambient track derived from classical and orchestral roots. All of the instruments used in this track could be found in a pretty standardized orchestra set-up paired with a bunch of ambient forest, wind, and river tracks to further increase the feeling of etherealism in this piece. What inspired my composition is melodies of the romantic era, I always have been a romantic era fan in classical music, my favorite melodies can all be described as beautiful to the ears, which is what I tried to do with this piece, I wanted to make an ambient ethereal track with the help of acoustically based instruments. I named this track "withering spring" to try to encompass the feeling of a bitterly sweet goodbye in the means of spring withering away, I decided to end this song on a Cmaj7 chord signaling that there will be another time to meet again.

An original music created with a limited amount of resources such as no professional equipments, to show that even in the pandemic, we can still be productive and not use lack of resources as a reason to not be productive

Sweet (original composition)

This was my summative for term 4, this work is basically a backing track, it functions as a backing track. This work is inspired by my own piano piece that i recorded through my phone, at that time i was really obsessed with that kind of chord progression so i improvised through that. Honestly there's nothing really interesting in this “backing track” , but i would say that i had a lot of fun creating this track even though it is a little messy, you can see that i just put a bunch of sounds into the track and i did that for the sake of experimenting.

This was also my summative for term 4, this is a cover of fly me to the moon

The style i put into this cover is mainly inspired from Jacob Collier style of music, especially in the vocal harmony i uses in the cover. I would say that the making of this cover was really quick and spontaneous, all the drums, piano, bass, and vocal plus vocal harmony, it was all done in an hour, and i'm not taking this summative too seriously, instead i use this as an opportunity to test a lot of ideas and see if it works or not. You might find some weird, and unexpected elements in this cover, such as the harmony, and also some swing elements as well.
