Teaching & Learning

Cheadle Hulme School is an academically selective school that prides itself on providing a challenging, dynamic and relevant academic curriculum which enables all our pupils to leave CHS  with the skills to become life-long independent learners. Our belief is that longer term success for all our pupils lies in individual effort, active engagement and collaborative learning.

Our priority for every student is to provide them with a challenging, dynamic and relevant education that enables them to attain their academic and personal potential and to prepare them fully and effectively for the next stage of their educational journey.

Key Stage 3 Curriculum Reform

From September 2021 CHS will revise the entire curriculum for pupils joining the Senior School in Year 7. This will continue with them in Year 8 and to Year 9 to ease the transition to their new secondary school.

The new reform will allow for more interdisciplinary work across the subjects. This means students will be encouraged to enhance their skills with more consistent forms of assessment, terminology and teaching methods. For example, rather than thinking about the way an individual subject is examined, the teaching and learning will be connected across the School timetable. The plan is that teachers will have a deeper understanding of what is happening in other subject areas so pupils can utilise the skills they are familiar with and reinforce what they have already learned.

To find out more, tune in to Episode 3 of CHS's The Ed. Podcast to hear Deputy Head (Teaching & Curriculum) Mr Lee Richardson explain the changes with Year 6 parent, Mrs Entwistle.
