This information is available for pupils on the Student Site.
Between now and February half-term, you will all be continuing your CHS education remotely.
We want to do everything we can to support you in continuing your learning at home. We know that this will present challenges for many of you, but we want to work as closely as we can with you so that you can continue to get the most out of your CHS education. We also hope you will develop crucial skills in organisation, time management, independent learning and communication, as well as those skills you will continue to develop across your subjects.
The details below outline how the new remote learning system will work in practice.
All your remote learning will be via Google Classroom, accessible via the Student Site and familiar to all of you by now.
You should treat each day as if it were a normal school day:
You should join your Form Google Classroom at 8.40 each day for registration.
You should then join the Google Classroom for each subject at the start of each lesson as you would during the normal School day. To build in short breaks between lessons and to ensure each can start promptly, they will be 55 minutes long:
Period 1 - 8:50-9:45am
Period 2 - 9.55-10.50am
Period 3 - 11.10-12.05pm
Period 4 - 13.45-14.40pm
Period 5 - 14.50-15.45pm
You should be dressed in a plain white shirt, and will be asked to do so by your teacher if you are not. You are permitted, but not required, to wear your School pullover or blazer should you wish. When joining a Google Meet, you should have your camera turned on with a plain background, and should be visible during any Meet. If you do not have a plain background, please blur your background in the Meet settings under ‘change background’.
Where possible, you should be working in a personal working area free from distraction with access to your resources, such as pens, paper, textbooks, exercise books and your device, whether that be laptop, desktop PC or iPad.
If you are struggling to keep up with the workload within the lesson you should inform your teacher. Communication with teachers should take place through Google Classroom or via email.
We would also remind you all to continue to use the 4Bs:
Brain, Book, Buddy, Boss
For example, ensure you read instructions carefully more than once and think carefully about them (brain), check the resources provided by your teacher (book), ask a question in the Classroom stream (buddy) or send a private comment to your teacher (boss).
There may be times where a teacher is unavailable for the duration of a lesson should they be unwell, looking after someone else who is unwell or need to attend to a childcare matter. In such cases, clear instructions will still be given on Google Classroom.
You should attend every lesson and complete all work to the very best of your ability. If you do not attend a lesson, do not complete the work or submit poor quality work, teachers will alert your parents, Form Tutor and Head of Year with a ‘Pink Card’. This will enable us to prevent anyone from falling behind and help those who need it.
If you are unwell or unable to attend, we have asked parents to tell the School.
Recess and lunch take place at the normal times, and you should make use of that time to be away from a screen.
Work will be set, assessed and feedback given with the usual frequency, using Google Classroom.
Form Tutors will keep in touch with you on a daily basis. You are expected to join your Form Classroom as a live Meet, 8.40-8.45am, each morning and at 1.20-1.40pm each afternoon. Heads of Year will arrange for remote assemblies to take place during remote learning.
If you are unwell or unable to attend registration and/or complete your academic work for any reason, then your parent/carer should contact the School via attendance@chschool.co.uk. Your parent/carer should then email again when you are once again fit to work.
If you have a safeguarding concern you should contact Mrs Susan James at susanjames@chschool.co.uk.
If you encounter technical difficulties in accessing remote learning resources, you should contact technicalservices@chschool.co.uk.
We hope the procedures above help you continue to make progress during the remote learning period. We want you to have access to the best academic support and pastoral care we can provide, and expect you to work with us to do that and do the best that you can. We are still here to support you. We are still CHS.
