An excellent choice of nutritious and delicious food is prepared on-site by the award-winning team from Independents by Sodexo who actively educate students about healthy food choices...
Infant children are provided with a snack at break time, for example fruit, vegetable batons, crackers and cheese.
For Seniors, breakfast is available as an optional extra to pupils daily in the Main Dining Hall from 8.00am to 8.30am. If pupils are not going to eat breakfast in School, please ensure that your child has some breakfast before they leave home in the morning.
A Morning Recess service is also available in the Senior School - details are shared with pupils in the Daily Bulletin. Alternatively, pupils can bring a snack to School (no nuts please).
Sixth Form students can purchase a wide range of hot and cold food and drinks throughout the day in the Sixth Form Centre café - "Strollers".
The latest menus give you an idea of the range of food available. To promote diversity, sustainability and healthy lifestyles, from time to time we will also have “themed menus” such as international food days, “Waste Awareness Week” and other celebratory festivities.
Infants eat their lunch in the Infant Dining Room within the Junior School.
Lunch for the Juniors and Senior School pupils is available in the Main Dining Hall and comprises of a choice from soup, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, pasta bar, hot main courses including vegetarian and halal options, a veg bar, a salad bar, a fruit bar, hot and cold puddings.
There is also "The Underpass" service for Senior School pupils, which offers more of a 'street food' range, duplicating some of the hot options, along with sandwiches and light snacks, in a cafe style environment.
Pupils are also able to bring a packed lunch from home if they wish.
Payment is via Cashless catering.
Attendance at any Breakfast, Morning Recess and Lunch is administered using “cashless catering” and all charges are added retrospectively on each terms invoice (see below for more guidance on the use of biometric personal information).
At the beginning of the year we use a fingerprint scanner to collect new student biometric data. To make purchases the student places their finger on a scanner and a display will show staff the students name and class details.
Lunch is a set cost of:
Reception - Year 4: £4.50
Year 5 and above: £5.15
Items available to purchase at Breakfast / Recess and in the Sixth Form Strollers cafe are priced individually.
If you wish, you can request a spend limit or a restriction on purchases, and we can send you itemised bills, please email feesledger@chschool.co.uk or call 0161 488 3330 ext 3205.
It is important that we know what allergies your child has, so we can help them understand how to make appropriate choices in the Dining Hall.
If your child has a food allergy or food intolerance please complete the Special Diet Information Form as accurately as you can. If your child’s condition changes after you send us the form, you need to tell us as soon as possible.

Catering and Library loans are made faster and more efficient with pupil authentication through a biometric recognition system.
At the heart of our cashless systems is a secure database which recognises pupils and records attendance at lunch, itemised spend at break times on any specific date / time, and any books loaned from our Learning Resource Centre.
At the beginning of the year we collect new pupil biometric data through a fingerprint scanner. Parent/carer consent is valid until such time as it is withdrawn and data is securely destroyed when it is no longer needed (or the pupil leaves CHS).
Parents and pupils have a right to refuse or withdraw their consent for this biometric recognition system and the alternative is for students to use a personalised swipe card.
Information about giving consent for this is detailed in the Acceptance Form when accepting a place at CHS. For more information contact our Admissions team.
