The exam boards work to a common set of regulations administered by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), other than Cambridge Assessment International Education which has its own rule book. However, in most areas, the rules converge.
When in an examination the rules of the Examination Boards apply. These are strict but straight forward and are there simply to ensure that pupils are given the best opportunity to deliver their own work without reference to others, or other material. Past experience has shown that candidates who fail to adhere to the various rules and regulations are generally treated unsympathetically by the Examination Boards; the corollary is that being aware of the rules in advance leads to less stress at the time of the examinations. In particular, the presence of unauthorised material and/or electronic items (e.g. mobile phones or smart watches) is not tolerated. Such malpractice will be treated seriously by the School on behalf of the Examination Boards and can lead to the cancellation of results.
