Whether you are already a proficient young musician or your musical talents are yet to be realised we have a broad range of musical activities available to you inside the classroom and through our Music Co-curricular programme, as well as the opportunity to have one to one instrumental or vocal lessons.
Singing and playing a musical instrument can be a highly rewarding and educationally worthwhile experience. It offers, not only individual pleasure, but also the opportunity to perform with others and provide a lifetime of enjoyment.
We have a policy of actively encouraging as many pupils as possible to take up instrumental/singing lessons and join in one of the many groups which rehearse each week; in so doing, we hope to foster a skill pupils will carry for the rest of their lives.
The department has a staff of 23 specialist Visiting Music Teachers who give individual private music lessons on a weekly basis through term time.
There are currently 250 pupils receiving lessons each week and all pupils at CHS have the opportunity to participate in a range of co-curricular activities no matter their age or ability, free of charge.
Pupils who do participate in our weekly ensembles and choirs are invited to perform in our two external concerts at the Royal Northern College of Music at Christmas and Easter as well as numerous other performing opportunities through the school year.
Further information on learning a musical instrument and our Co-Curricular programme can be found in the brochure to the right >>
For those pupils joining CHS on a Music Scholarship I congratulate you on your success of getting on to the programme and I will be writing to you individually in the near future to give you the dates of all the performances and musical opportunities that are part of the High Performance Programme.
In addition to the instrumental lessons and a broad range of Co-Curricular ensembles and choirs on offer we also encourage every Year 7 to be part of the Year 7 Vocal Concert in the Autumn term. Preparation for this concert forms part of academic music lessons in the Autumn term and is a wonderful way for pupils to find their voices and build on new friendships.
I wish all new Year 7s every success in their time at Cheadle Hulme School and I look forward to seeing the musical development of many pupils.
