What is the Smoothwall Online Safety Hub?
The Online Safety Hub is a dedicated, central resource library designed to help you stay ahead of digital trends and have meaningful conversations with your children about online safety. Written by a multi-disciplinary team of digital safety experts, psychologists, and tech specialists, the hub offers:
Up-to-date expert advice and guidance on the latest digital trends.
Detailed app and game reviews, including safety settings and age suggestions for popular platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Minecraft.
Actionable resources to help you manage screen time, address cyberbullying, and talk about oversharing.
30-Day Trial of the Qustodio Parental Engagement App
As part of our Smoothwall provision, we are also pleased to offer CHS families a 30-day free trial of Qustodio Premium, a world-leading parental control and digital wellbeing app.
What is Qustodio?
Qustodio is a parental engagement app designed to help you supervise, manage, and protect your child's device usage across phones, tablets, and computers. It is an excellent tool for fostering healthy digital habits at home. Key features include:
Screen Time Management: Set healthy daily time limits and introduce screen-free schedules (such as during bedtime or family meals).
Content Filtering: Automatically block harmful or inappropriate websites and applications to ensure a safe browsing experience.
Activity Reports: Gain visibility into your child’s online world with daily and weekly reports on their search history, app usage, and screen tim
Location Tracking: Track your child's location via their device's GPS for added peace of mind.
At the end of the 30-day Premium trial, you will not be automatically charged. You can either subscribe to the Premium version for multiple devices or seamlessly switch to Qustodio's Basic version, which remains free forever for one device.
CHS Online Safety Guide
While the Smoothwall Online Safety Hub provides excellent broad resources, our CHS Online Safety Guide is tailored specifically to our school community. It works alongside general advice by providing essential, school-specific details, including our reporting routes for safeguarding and technical concerns, our local policies on mobile devices and BYOD, and how our internal safeguards operate. Please use this guide as your primary reference for managing online safety within our school procedures.
CHS Acceptable Use Agreements
These have been updated for this academic year, and we encourage you to view the relevant AUPs here:
Students must read and understand these agreements. In the Senior School, they are set via Google Classroom assignments, and all students must acknowledge they will adhere to these expectations by returning the assignment.
We encourage you to explore the new Smoothwall Online Safety Portal, CHS Online Safety Guide, and relevant AUPs, and to take advantage of the Qustodio trial. By working together, we can help our students build positive, safe, and resilient digital habits.

Device Guidance
Digital Learning empowers our pupils to lead their own learning. It can help forge even more effective learning partnerships with teachers and fellow pupils. We ask for support from parents as we continue our journey to change the pedagogy at CHS; evolving the way pupils are able to learn and the way teachers teach. We want to prepare our young people for a world where mobile devices are already used as a matter of course at work and increasingly in a variety of educational settings. Many young people use devices primarily for social interaction and gaming. We aspire to enable our pupils to recognise the educational value of using a mobile device in a safe, controlled and creative manner; for it to become a part of their regular working toolkit - not replacing old methods but enhancing them.
Y7 Pupils are required to have their own Chromebook Spin. If this has been ordered through the School, they will be distributed in September.
All pupils will be expected to sign the School's Acceptable Use Policy every September (see the Online Safety Section below for further details).
