The WMAES Parent Team has once again made it possible for us to host a popcorn sale for students. Bags of popcorn are 50 cents. Families will still be able to sponsor an entire class for a donation of $12. Students are able to purchase multiple bags of popcorn if desired.
We would like to remind everyone of the importance of regular attendance and punctuality in setting students up for success.
The school day begins promptly at 8:00 AM, and students may enter as early as 7:45 AM. Arriving on time ensures a smooth start to the day, helps establish a strong routine, and maximizes essential instructional time—setting a positive tone for learning. Every moment in the classroom is an opportunity to grow, connect, and build essential skills.
We understand that occasional absences or tardiness may happen due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, but making consistent attendance a priority helps students stay engaged and confident in their learning. Regular attendance fosters a sense of belonging, builds positive habits, and ensures students don’t miss valuable instruction.
We appreciate your partnership in making daily attendance a priority! If you have any concerns or need assistance, please reach out—we are here to help.
WMAES expects an attendance rate of 90% or higher (approximately 4 absences per quarter).
If a student accumulates 3 counted absences within the first 30 school days or their attendance rate falls below 90% at any time, families will receive a first notice via email with helpful resources. Additional support will be available based on individual needs.
Thank you for your commitment to your child’s success!

Although all students at WMAES receive free breakfast and lunch through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), we still ask that every family completes an Education Benefits Form for the 2025–2026 school year.
Why this matters:
Even though meals are free, completing this form helps our school qualify for critical funding that supports student programs and services.
You can complete the form in one of two ways:
✅ Click here to print and complete the Education Benefits Form (2025–2026)
✅ Complete and return the hard copy that will be sent home with your child
Completed forms may be returned to your child’s teacher or to the elementary office.
Thank you for taking a moment to support our school community!
The State of Michigan now requires all public schools to distribute a Tribal Affiliation Questionnaire to families — however, submission of the form is completely voluntary. This is part of a statewide effort to strengthen partnerships with Tribal Nations and better support Indigenous students. The form allows families to indicate if their child has tribal affiliation, heritage, or citizenship with a Native Nation.

Our fall NWEA MAP Growth testing window will begin soon for students in Young Fives through Fifth Grade. This assessment measures student growth in reading and math and provides valuable information to guide instruction and support — it is not a graded test.
What is MAP Growth?
MAP Growth is a computer-adaptive assessment that adjusts in difficulty based on how students respond. This helps us gather meaningful data for students at all levels, so we can better understand what they know and what they’re ready to learn next.
📈 Why It Matters:
Provides valuable insights into each student’s learning needs
Helps teachers personalize instruction and support
Tracks individual student growth over time
Supports schoolwide planning and decision-making
📚 Helpful Resources for Families:
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work to meet the needs of every learner at WMAES!
We’re pleased to offer your child the opportunity to participate in the Hand2Hand Weekend Food Program for the 2025‑2026 school year. This program provides a bag of weekend food items each week to students whose families might be experiencing financial need — at no cost to you.
Here’s how it works:
Each week, students who are signed up will receive a bag with at least 10 food items (breakfast, snacks, and lunch or dinner items).
The bag will be discreetly delivered to your child at school before the weekend.
This will continue throughout the school year without weekly re‑sign up — unless you let us know you’d like to stop at any time.
Important notes:
If your child or someone in your household has food allergies, you’ll need to check the bag each week to make sure there are no ingredients that might cause a reaction.
After submitting the permission form, please allow at least two weeks before you receive the first bag.
If you do not receive a bag when expected, contact the school office so we can follow up.
